The skill tree in Command An Army
Update 3 replaced the flat trait list with a skill tree, and the tree is the only permanent progression system in the game. This page is written from what creators recorded on screen after launch, including the one rule that decides how you should spend.
The tree belongs to the unit, not the account
The first thing to understand is that a skill tree is opened from inside a unit rather than from a global menu. You select a unit, you pick one of its branches, and the nodes belong to that unit only. Nobody else benefits from what you unlock there, and nothing carries over if you retire the unit. This is the difference from the old trait system, where abilities sat on a flatter list, and it is the reason the same branch text shows up under several different unit names.
One final skill, everything else optional
Two creators who recorded this independently agree on the same mechanic, which is unusual enough to treat as the rule rather than one reading of it. The ordinary nodes on a branch can all be unlocked, so there is no penalty for buying the cheap ones as you go. The red nodes at the end are different: they are final skills, and you may take only one. Everything before the red node is additive, and everything after it is a genuine choice.
The practical consequence is that a tree can be finished in layers. Buy the ordinary nodes you want, leave the red node until you know what the unit is actually going to be used for, and do not treat the branch as all-or-nothing just because the preview screen makes it look that way.
Finish the evolution before you pay
The most expensive mistake in the system
One creator demonstrated this rather than describing it. Skills sit on the unit at its current tier, so stepping that unit back down an evolution or ascension tier made a skill they had already paid for disappear. The rule that follows is simple and worth following strictly: reach the final evolution or ascension tier before spending crystals on that unit, because every crystal spent before that point can be wasted by a later tier change.
Skills can be reset, and the same recording treats the reset as costing stones rather than returning crystals in full. If you are not certain which branch you want, the cheap move is to unlock nothing irreversible and come back after the tier is settled.
Where the crystals come from
Skill crystals are a currency of their own and are not interchangeable with gems, which is why they are the bottleneck on this system. The sources named on camera are codes, the battle pass, completed tasks, daily and weekly quests, and ranked play. An AFK server was added in the same update and can pay out crystals as well as gems, and one creator notes a luck bonus that improves the odds there. Treat the AFK route as something you top up rather than plan around, because it is described as a low-probability option.
Which tree you want depends on the job
The families visible in the interface are spear, melee, tank, cavalry and archer, with mounted archers expected to receive one as well. But the branches overlap more than the names suggest: lancer, myrmidon, laestrygonian, berserker, immortal and samurai are all described as drawing from the same branch set, while Spartan and Spear Vanguard sit on a defensive set built around block and knockback instead.
- Offensive branches: built around speed, dash behaviour and hit-and-retreat play. A creator who built a lancer tree argues this is what makes lancers hit first and disengage, rather than anything raw.
- Defensive branches: built around block, reduced knockback and faster recovery after a formation breaks. The same recording picks block over raw health for a turtle line, on the grounds that less knockback means less risk of the formation being pulled apart.
Node cost climbs steeply the deeper you go, which is the other reason creators recommend finishing one unit rather than opening five. Spreading crystals thin across a roster feels productive and is not: every partially built tree is a tree that has already paid for the cheap nodes and is still missing its one red decision.
Where the numbers stop
The branch layouts and node names above come from creators reading their own screens between 2026-10-03 and 2026-10-04, not from official patch notes, and the exact cost of each node is not something any of them state reliably. Figures read off a panel on camera are therefore left out of this page, because the same numbers are misread across recordings. The structural rules are the part worth acting on: one red skill per tree, per-unit scope, and finish the tier before you pay. Those are the rules more than one recording agrees on, and they are enough to plan around even without a full cost table.
Watch it in action
Every video below passed two checks before it went on this page: it resolves through YouTube’s own oEmbed endpoint, so the title and channel shown are the real ones, and it ships English captions, which is where the points beside it were read from. Nothing here is described from a thumbnail or a guess.
The BEST Skill Tree for Every Unit in Command an Army!

- Its most expensive lesson is demonstrated rather than stated: skills are attached to the unit, and stepping that unit back down an evolution tier made a purchased skill disappear - so the rule given is to reach final evolution or ascension before spending crystals.
- Only one red final skill can be taken out of a tree, and the creator shows units where the tier change was the exact point at which the cheaper branches already bought became wasted spend.
- Groups the roster by shared branches, saying lancer, myrmidon, laestrygonian, berserker, immortal and samurai draw from the same set while Spartan and Spear Vanguard sit on a defensive tree of their own.
- Treats skill crystals as a currency separate from gems and names daily and weekly tasks, reward tracks and ranked play as the places they come from.
- Creator verdict (interpretation): because unlock cost climbs steeply with depth, finishing one unit's tree beats opening several, and the closing playtest shows the rebuilt spearmen and lancers hitting faster, striking first and retreating.

NEW SKILL TREES ARE AMAZING in Roblox Command an Army (CAA)

- States the rule that decides an entire tree: every ordinary node can be unlocked, and the red nodes at the end are the only real choice because only one of them can be taken.
- Shows the price rising sharply the deeper the tree goes, which is why the creator keeps abandoning a half-built branch and restarting rather than completing it.
- Points out the same branch set is reused across families - spear, lancer, myrmidon, laestrygonian, berserker, immortal and samurai all read the same - while Spartan gets a defensive set built around block and knockback.
- Splits the archetypes into an offensive set and a defensive set, so which tree you want depends on the job rather than on the unit name.
- Creator opinion (interpretation): the trees are called good but expensive in Robux, and the battle pass is singled out as costly for anyone buying to the end.

About Skill Tree/How To Get Skill Crystal Command An Army Roblox

- Walks the entry point - the tree is reached from inside a unit - and lists the families visible on screen: spear, melee, tank, cavalry and archer, with mounted archers expected to get one as well.
- Restates the exclusivity rule from the panel itself: several branches can be opened but only one final skill comes out of the tree.
- Lists where skill crystals come from - codes, the battle pass, completed tasks, daily and weekly quests - and adds an AFK server as the low-probability option.
- Flags a luck bonus that raises the AFK drop chance, and treats that as something to buy into rather than plan around.
